Week of October 17, 2010, Psalm 121
One of the Scriptures for Sunday is Psalm 121, a great psalm of inspiration and comfort and a reminder of God’s promises to us:
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills— where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip— he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD watches over you— the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
Dear Lord – You are our Helper, the Maker, the Creator of heaven and earth. We look to no other place or person than to You, our great and mighty God, who can do – and does all things well. You protect us, not allowing our feet to slip on the path that we walk with You. Keep us on that path, Lord. You watch over us, just as You watched over Israel, even during their forty years in the wilderness, as the pillar of cloud by day, and the pillar of fire at night, leading and guiding and protecting. Lord God, thank You, that when we are in the desert and wilderness of our own lives, You are with us, watching over us, leading and guiding and protecting, whether we realize it or not. For You never sleep. You never slumber. You are even our shade of protection, so that no harm comes to us. You watch over life – each one of us, watching our coming and going, always a part of our lives, both now and forevermore.
Thank You, Lord, that You are our Help and our Hope and our Strength. And when it seems that You are far from us, remind us that it is not You that has abandoned or forsaken us. Your deepest desire for each of us is an abiding presence and an overwhelming love with each one of us – filled with unconditional grace.
Thanks, Jesus, for Your love, Your strength and comfort, Your peace and Your presence, both now and forevermore. Amen.
May the Lord bless you as you go on your way. May He go before you to show you the way. May He go behind you to encourage you. May He go beside you to guide and befriend you. May He always be above you to watch over you. And may He be within you to give you peace.
In the name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
