Week of October 16, 2005, Psalm 96:1-9
Welcome:
One of the Scriptures for Sunday is from Psalm 96, the first nine verses – a psalm of praise:
1 Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth.
2 Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day.
3 Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.
4 For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods.
5 For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens.
6 Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary.
7 Ascribe to the LORD, O families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength.
8 Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts.
9 Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth.
Dear Lord, Your word reminds me to give You great praise, to sing new songs to You – not to rely on the old, but no matter what I do, to sing You songs of praise. Father, may I look to new ways to praise and worship You, to add variety to praise, and not to allow myself or my private devotions to become stale or dry. Help me, Lord, to find ways that fit me, that suit my personality to seek Your presence and worship and praise and give You thanks.
For You are a great God, most worthy of praise, for You made the earth and the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before You; strength and glory are in Your sanctuary.
Help me, Lord, to worship You in the splendor of Your holiness, to tremble before You always – never forgetting Your marvelous deeds and actions with me, and among Your people.
Thanks for Your mercy, Your love, Your presence in my life. Amen.
May the love of the Lord Jesus draw us to Himself;
May the power of the Lord Jesus strengthen us in His service;
May the joy of the Lord Jesus fill our souls;
And may the blessing of the almighty and most merciful God - Creator, Word and eternal Holy Spirit - be upon us and remain with us always.
