Week of March 22, 2009, John 3:14-21
One of the Scriptures for Sunday is from the Gospel of John, chapter 3, verses 14 to 21 – the famous section of Scripture that we all need to remember:
And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, 15 that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not perish but may have eternal life.
17 “Indeed, God did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him. 18 Those who believe in him are not condemned; but those who do not believe are condemned already, because they have not believed in the name of the only Son of God. 19 And this is the judgment, that the light has come into the world, and people loved darkness rather than light because their deeds were evil. 20 For all who do evil hate the light and do not come to the light, so that their deeds may not be exposed. 21 But those who do what is true come to the light, so that it may be clearly seen that their deeds have been done in God.”
Jesus, You are the light of the world. And Your Word is true, for You are the Word made flesh. You come into the world to bring salvation. You come to each one of us, so that believing in You, we have eternal life. There is something beyond this life, beyond what we know, and it is spectacular! For You have come out of Love so that no one would perish. You did not come to condemn the world. You have come in love to draw all people to Yourself.
Help me, Lord, to see how You work, that You died for each one of us, so that we might be saved. Help us, Lord, to look to You as Light, the true Light.
Thanks, Jesus, for Your love, for Your peace, for Your presence with each one of us always. Amen.
The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you His strength and His great peace. In the name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
