Week of October 23, 2005, Psalm 1
One of the Scriptures for Sunday is Psalm 1 –
The great psalm that contrasts the life of faith and trust in God, and the life of the world:
1 Blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked or stand in the way of sinners or sit in the seat of mockers.
2 But his delight is in the law of the LORD, and on his law he meditates day and night.
3 He is like a tree planted by streams of water, which yields its fruit in season and whose leaf does not wither. Whatever he does prospers.
4 Not so the wicked! They are like chaff that the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked will not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the assembly of the righteous.
6 For the LORD watches over the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked will perish.
Dear Lord, I give You praise and thanks today. Help me to delight in Your law, Your Word, and help me to always keep it in my heart day and night.
When I reflect on Your Word, Jesus, it nourishes me and like a tree by streams of water, it keeps me close to You. As I keep Your Word near me, I am more aware of Your presence with me.
And because of that, Lord, may I bear fruit – the fruit of love, joy, peace, patience, gentleness and kindness, goodness and faithfulness, and self-control.
Thanks for Your presence with me always. Watch over me and guard and guide me. Jesus, use me as You will, but keep me close to You – always. Amen.
May the Lord shower you with His mercy; may the light of His presence be ever your guide; may He guard you and uphold you; may His Spirit be ever by your side. May He bless Your comings in and your goings out. When you sleep, may His angels watch over you; when you wake, may He fill you with His grace. May you love Him and serve Him all your days, and then in heaven to see His face forevermore.
In the name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
May our great God, who watches over the righteous, be with you now and always.
