Week of May 21, 2006, Psalm 98

One of the Scriptures for Sunday is Psalm 98 - a great psalm of praise:
1 Sing to the LORD a new song, for he has done marvelous things; his right hand and his holy arm have worked salvation for him.
2 The LORD has made his salvation known and revealed his righteousness to the nations.
3 He has remembered his love and his faithfulness to the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.
4 Shout for joy to the LORD, all the earth, burst into jubilant song with music;
5 make music to the LORD with the harp, with the harp and the sound of singing,
6 with trumpets and the blast of the ram's horn-- shout for joy before the LORD, the King.
7 Let the sea resound, and everything in it, the world, and all who live in it.
8 Let the rivers clap their hands, let the mountains sing together for joy;
9 let them sing before the LORD, for he comes to judge the earth. He will judge the world in righteousness and the peoples with equity.

Dear Heavenly Father – with joy I shout to You, and join with all creation in a chorus of praise. As I see all Your marvelous works around me, and how You have been in my life and worked out my salvation, I can only give You thanks and praise for Your overwhelming goodness and love.

Help me, Lord, to praise You and worship You in new ways – to sing a new song to You, in whatever way I am able – to look for new opportunities and new approaches that continue to add excitement and joy to each new day.

Lord, my praise is inadequate, but with all Your creation bursting into praise, I join, and simply enjoy Your presence. Give me a passion and fervency for looking to You in prayer and praise.

Thanks for Your presence, Your goodness, Your joy in my life…. Amen.

May the Lord bless you as you go on your way. May He go before you to show you the way. May He go behind you to encourage you. May He go beside you to guide and befriend you. May He always be above you to watch over you. And may He be within you to give you peace.

In the name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
