Week of February 24, 2008, Psalm 95

One of the Scriptures for Sunday is Psalm 95, a call to worship and obedience.
1 Come, let us sing for joy to the LORD; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation.
2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song.
3 For the LORD is the great God, the great King above all gods.
4 In his hand are the depths of the earth, and the mountain peaks belong to him.
5 The sea is his, for he made it, and his hands formed the dry land.
6 Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the LORD our Maker;
7 for he is our God and we are the people of his pasture, the flock under his care. Today, if you hear his voice,
8 do not harden your hearts as you did at Meribah, as you did that day at Massah in the desert,
9 where your fathers tested and tried me, though they had seen what I did.
10 For forty years I was angry with that generation; I said, "They are a people whose hearts go astray, and they have not known my ways."
11 So I declared on oath in my anger, "They shall never enter my rest."

Dear Lord, thanks for calling us to worship You, to sing for joy because of You, to shout to You, the Rock of our salvation, to thank You, for You are a great God, the great King above all gods. In Your hand is the whole of creation, from the depths of the earth, to the mountain peaks – they all belong to You. You made the sea and formed the dry land. O God, You are almighty and all-powerful, and we give You praise.

We come to worship You, kneeling before You, Lord, our Maker, bowing down in worship, for You are our God, and we are the people of Your pasture, the flock under Your care. You tend and care for us, You protect and discipline us, helping us to mature and grow in our relationship with You.

Help us to listen to You, to hear Your voice, to keep Your word in our heart, so that our minds do not become cynical, our hearts do not become hardened, and Your word with us so that we do not go astray, but keep on growing in the ways of Your Spirit.

Thanks, Jesus, for Your help in our lives as Teacher and Counselor, as Keeper and Friend. Thanks for the peace that You give, Your love that You surround us with, Your presence always near. Amen.

May the Lord bless you as you go on your way. May He go before you to show you the way. May He go behind you to encourage you. May He go beside you to guide and befriend you. May He always be above you to watch over you. And may He be within you to give you peace.
