Week of April 5th, April 10th, 2009, Good Fridday
A scripture for this day of Good Friday is John 3:16:
“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone whobelieves in him may not perish but may have eternal life.”
And From Luke 24:6-7, where Jesus, now risen, talks to some followers on the road to Emmaus, and He is explaining the scriptures:
“Remember how Jesus told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be handed over to sinners, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.”
And Jesus, just before He died, from John 19:28-30:
“…When Jesus knew that all was now finished, He said (in order to fulfill the scripture), ‘I am thirsty.’ A jar full of sour wine was standing there. So they put a sponge full of the wine on a branch of hyssop and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the wine, he said, ‘It is finished.’ Then He bowed his head and gave up His spirit.”
Dear Jesus, thanks for Your love, evidenced by dying on the cross for us, for each one of us. You are King of kings, Lord of lords, God of gods, and You humbled Yourself to the point of death for our salvation. May we know the power of the cross, the power of humility in love, the power of God in our midst.
Thanks You, Jesus, for Your presence with us always.
The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you His strength and His profound peace. In the name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
