Week of November 13, 2005 - Psalm 90:1-8, 12
One of the Scriptures for Sunday is from Psalm 90, verses 1-8 and verse 12:
1 Lord, you have been our dwelling place throughout all generations.
2 Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
3 You turn men back to dust, saying, "Return to dust, O sons of men."
4 For a thousand years in your sight are like a day that has just gone by, or like a watch in the night.
5 You sweep men away in the sleep of death; they are like the new grass of the morning--
6 though in the morning it springs up new, by evening it is dry and withered.
7 We are consumed by your anger and terrified by your indignation.
8 You have set our iniquities before you, our secret sins in the light of your presence.
12 Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.
Dear Lord, I praise and thank You, for You are a great God, majestic and powerful, Creator of the universe. Before the mountains were born or You brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God – no beginning, no ending.
You bring fresh perspective to my life as I think about my family, back several generations, and the future of my kids. You remind me that I will die and return to dust as all my past generations have died. But time means nothing to You, Lord, for a thousand years is like a day to You. I only want to be in Your presence.
My iniquities, my sins I bring to You, Lord – nothing kept secret in Your presence, for You know everything about me. I always seek Your forgiveness and cleansing and You are always faithful.
Jesus, help me to enjoy each day, to do as much as I can, to do all things for Your glory, to make each day precious and valuable, walking in Your ways and growing in wisdom and my relationship with You.
Thanks for Your love, Your holy perspective, Your presence with me always. Amen.
May the Lord shower you with His mercy; may the light of His presence be ever your guide; may He guard you and uphold you; may His Spirit be ever by your side. May He bless Your comings in and your goings out. When you sleep, may His angels watch over you; when you wake, may He fill you with His grace. May you love Him and serve Him all your days, and then in heaven to see His face forevermore.
In the name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
