Week of September 9, 2007, Psalm 1

One of the Scriptures for Sunday is Psalm 1, a psalm of comfort, reminding us of the benefits in our spiritual life when we keep close to God’s Word:
1 Happy are they who have not walked in the counsel of the wicked, nor lingered in the way of sinners, nor sat in the seats of the scornful!
2 Their delight is in the law of the Lord, and they meditate on God’s teaching day and night.
3 They are like trees planted by streams of water, bearing fruit in due season, with leaves that do not wither; everything they do shall prosper.
4 It is not so with the wicked; they are like chaff which the wind blows away.
5 Therefore the wicked shall not stand upright when judgment comes, nor the sinner in the council of the righteous.
6 For the Lord knows the way of the righteous, but the way of the wicked shall be destroyed.

Dear Lord, thank You for Your Word. Help me to grow in my relationship with You as a tree grows and matures by streams of water. Help me to bear fruit – to have a strong commitment to service and mission as You show me the need. Lord, I do not want to be like chaff that the wind simply blows away because there is no foundation. May my foundation be one with You.

Always, Lord Jesus, help me to delight in You, in Your Word, Your powerful promise that You are with all of us as we look to You for all things. Thanks for Your love, Your peace, Your joy…. Amen.

May the love of the Lord Jesus draw us to Himself;
May the power of the Lord Jesus strengthen us in His service;
May the joy of the Lord Jesus fill our souls;
May the fire of the Holy Spirit bring comfort, guidance and fervency;
And may the blessing of the almighty and most merciful God - Creator, Word and eternal Holy Spirit - be upon us and remain with us always.
In the name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
