Week of January 10, 2010, Matthew 28:16-20
One of the Scriptures for Sunday is from the last verses of the Gospel of Matthew, called the Great Commission, Matthew 28:16-20:
16Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go. 17When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted. 18Then Jesus came to them and said, "All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. 19Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, 20and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age."
Dear God, I praise and exalt Your name. I praise Your holy name, and worship You as almighty God. Heavenly Father, thank You for the plan of salvation set before us, with Your Son, Jesus, born in a stable, calling forth disciples, teaching and healing, comforting and encouraging, bringing them and us to maturity, for giving them – and us – authority to go, and make disciples, Your followers, Jesus, baptizing in the name of – Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, recognizing You as God the Father, God the Son, who died for each one of us, God the Holy Spirit who empowered the disciples, and empowers us to do ministry – fulfilling our individual callings or ministry in whatever setting we are in, knowing that You, Jesus are with us always, to the very end of the age – to the very end of our life, every day of our lives, every second of our lives with us.
Thank You Jesus, for Your love expressed, Your Spirit empowering us, Your presence with us always. Amen.
The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you His strength and His great peace. In the name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
