Week of November 12, 2006, Psalm 146
One of the Scriptures for Sunday is Psalm 146 - a great psalm of praise and promises of provision:
1 Praise the LORD. Praise the LORD, O my soul.
2 I will praise the LORD all my life; I will sing praise to my God as long as I live.
3 Do not put your trust in princes, in mortal men, who cannot save.
4 When their spirit departs, they return to the ground; on that very day their plans come to nothing.
5 Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the LORD his God,
6 the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them-- the LORD, who remains faithful forever.
7 He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The LORD sets prisoners free,
8 the LORD gives sight to the blind, the LORD lifts up those who are bowed down, the LORD loves the righteous.
9 The LORD watches over the alien and sustains the fatherless and the widow, but he frustrates the ways of the wicked.
10 The LORD reigns forever, your God, O Zion, for all generations. Praise the LORD.
Dear Lord, with all my heart I give You praise. My soul and spirit praise You all of my life – as long as I live.
Lord, You uphold the cause of the oppressed; when I feel oppressed, Lord, You uphold me. You give food to the hungry; when I am hungry and thirsty for You, Lord, You satisfy. You set prisoners free; when I feel bound and imprisoned, You free me. You give sight to the blind; when I feel blinded, You give me the sense of sight that I need. You lift up those who are bowed down; when I am weighed down with the cares of my life, You lift me up.
You love the righteous; when I need You most, Lord, I begin to realize the ocean of love that You surround me with. You watch over the alien, and You sustain the fatherless and the widow.
Your reign is forever. And every generation gives You praise. Thanks for Your power, Your Help and Your Hope, Your love and Your peace, and Your presence in my life. Amen.
The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you His strength and His great peace. In the name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
