Week of June 4, 2006, Romans 8:22-28

One of the Scriptures during this early part of the Pentecost season is from Romans, chapter 8, verses 22-28 - where the Apostle Paul has an emphasis on the help and power of the Holy Spirit:

22 We know that the whole creation has been groaning as in the pains of childbirth right up to the present time.
23 Not only so, but we ourselves, who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, groan inwardly as we wait eagerly for our adoption as sons, the redemption of our bodies.
24 For in this hope we were saved. But hope that is seen is no hope at all. Who hopes for what he already has?
25 But if we hope for what we do not yet have, we wait for it patiently.
26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groans that words cannot express.
27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints in accordance with God's will.
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Heavenly Father, by the power of the Holy Spirit, and with Jesus, our Savior, we are a part of Your creation, and we praise and worship You. Jesus, we were saved by Your shed blood on the cross, forgiving us our sins as we cry out to You. We eagerly hope and look forward to adoption as sons and daughters in eternity, for You have called us children of God, and so we are.

Holy Spirit, thanks for helping us in my weaknesses. You are there strengthening, empowering, enlightening, filling me. And You intercede in prayer to the Father on my behalf. I know that my prayer is heard, even when I do not know what to say, my profound need is heard.

And no matter what happens, I know that all things work out for the good, because Jesus, I trust in You. And at times I can do nothing else but cling to You and the cross.

Thank You, Jesus, for hearing my prayer. Continue to fill me with Your Spirit – the Spirit of joy, peace, patience, love, gentleness, faithfulness. Thanks for Your presence with me always…. Amen.

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you His strength and His great peace. In the name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
