Week of October 28, 2007, Psalm 46

One of the Scriptures for Sunday is Psalm 46 – a strong psalm of strength in the midst of the storms of life and a reminder that God is always with us:
1 God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.
2 Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea,
3 though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.
4 There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells.
5 God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.
6 Nations are in uproar, kingdoms fall; he lifts his voice, the earth melts.
7 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.
8 Come and see the works of the LORD, the desolations he has brought on the earth.
9 He makes wars cease to the ends of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear, he burns the shields with fire.
10 "Be still, and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations, I will be exalted in the earth."
11 The LORD Almighty is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress.

Dear Lord, You are our refuge and strength, an ever-present help and hope in trouble. I will not be afraid even the earth gives way around me and the mountains fall in the heart of the sea, no matter what frustrations I face, You are always with me. No matter the fears and anxiousness that surrounds me, You are always with me.

For You, Most High Father God, dwell in the holy place, Your city in which a river flows from Your throne. Even though nations may be in an uproar and kingdoms fall, just Your voice will melt the earth.

For You are our fortress and You, Lord Almighty are always with us. Help me, Lord, to be still, to ponder Your presence within and around, to know that always You are God.

You are my God. You are the God of the universe. You are exalted among the nations; You are exalted on the earth. For You are my refuge and strength, my fortress, my God always with me. Thanks for Your presence, Lord, Your comfort, Your love and peace – always with me. Amen.

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you His strength and His great peace. In the name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Week of October 21, 2007, Psalm 121

One of the Scriptures for Sunday is Psalm 121 – a psalm describing God’s sustaining power and protection:
1 I lift up my eyes to the hills-- where does my help come from?
2 My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth.
3 He will not let your foot slip-- he who watches over you will not slumber;
4 indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep.
5 The LORD watches over you-- the LORD is your shade at your right hand;
6 the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night.
7 The LORD will keep you from all harm-- he will watch over your life;
8 the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.

Dear Lord, thanks for Your protection in my life. Remind me, Heavenly Father, that my help does not come from anything or anyone on this earth, but only from You. My help comes from You, O Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth.

When I stumble in life and fall, You are there. When I sleep, You watch over me. When I am burned by the failures in life, You provide shade so I am not harmed. You keep me from all harm. You watch over me every day of my life. You watch over me as I leave in the morning, as I come back in the evening. You watch over me even as I stray from You and make wrong turns in life. You draw me back by Your unconditional love.

Father God, keep me close to You to face every situation, protecting and guiding me. Thanks for Your presence, Your joy, Your peace in my life. Amen.

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you His strength and His great peace. In the name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Week of October 7, 2007, Psalm 37:1-9

One of the Scriptures for Sunday is from Psalm 37, verses 1 to 9:
1 Do not fret because of evil men or be envious of those who do wrong;
2 for like the grass they will soon wither, like green plants they will soon die away.
3 Trust in the LORD and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.
4 Delight yourself in the LORD and he will give you the desires of your heart.
5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him and he will do this:
6 He will make your righteousness shine like the dawn, the justice of your cause like the noonday sun.
7 Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him; do not fret when men succeed in their ways, when they carry out their wicked schemes.
8 Refrain from anger and turn from wrath; do not fret-- it leads only to evil.
9 For evil men will be cut off, but those who hope in the LORD will inherit the land.

Heavenly Father, thanks that You are a great God, who takes on all our cares and worries to Yourself. You remind us not to fret. You remind us to be still before You, to wait patiently for You, to hope in Your Word, to hope in Your ways, to trust
You fully and confidently, to commit our ways to You.

Father, thanks for Your promises, Your faithfulness, Your word that says that we need only to hope in You, and You will renew our strength, that we will soar on wings like eagles, that we will run and not grow weary, that we will walk and not be faint.

So Lord, we turn all of our cares and concerns and troubles and frustrations over to You, and we leave them at the foot of the cross. Thanks for Your peace that comes as we are still in the midst of Your presence. Thanks for Your love that showers down on us as we are renewed each day. Thanks for Your joy that allows us to run and not grow weary, strength to meet each new day. And thanks, Jesus, for Your presence with us in the midst of every situation. We come to You. We stay with You. We commit our ways to You in all things. Amen.

May the Lord bless you as you go on your way. May He go before you to show you the way. May He go behind you to encourage you. May He go beside you to guide and befriend you. May He always be above you to watch over you. And may He be within you to give you peace.

In the name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
