Week of August 31, 2008, Psalm 26:1-8

One of the Scriptures for Sunday is from Psalm 26, verses 1 to 8. A psalm where King David cries out to God saying that he is blameless in the face of his enemies – that he is fully committed to God. David, speaking to God:
1 Vindicate me, O LORD, for I have led a blameless life; I have trusted in the LORD without wavering.
2 Test me, O LORD, and try me, examine my heart and my mind;
3 for your love is ever before me, and I walk continually in your truth.
4 I do not sit with deceitful men, nor do I consort with hypocrites;
5 I abhor the assembly of evildoers and refuse to sit with the wicked.
6 I wash my hands in innocence, and go about your altar, O LORD,
7 proclaiming aloud your praise and telling of all your wonderful deeds.
8 I love the house where you live, O LORD, the place where your glory dwells.

Dear Lord, I am not sinless, and I am daily reminded that I am a sinner, but Your love is overwhelming, and I trust in Your ways. Your love is ever before me, and Your truth is on my heart and my mind. Your Spirit, Lord, gently brings to mind the times that I walk away from You, and nudges me to come to You. You do forgive, You do cleanse, You do restore me.

And so, Lord, help me to proclaim Your praises and Your wonderful deeds in my life. Help me to share with others what You have done in my life and how Your love is overpowering and exciting, how Your Spirit guides and leads and comforts and strengthens me.

I love the house where You live, O Lord, the place where Your glory dwells. I see the evidence of Your mind and fingers at work in Your creation all over the world. And I am in awe of how You work in Your creation and in each one of us.

Jesus, thanks for Your love, Your peace, Your presence in my life always. Amen.

The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face to shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you His strength and His great peace. In the name of the Father and of the Son of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

Week of August 17, Psalm 67

One of the Scriptures for Sunday is Psalm 67 – a psalm of joy and praise, with the sense that the Great Commission is completed and all the nations, all the peoples are praising God:
1 May God be gracious to us and bless us and make his face shine upon us,
2 that your ways may be known on earth, your salvation among all nations.
3 May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you.
4 May the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you rule the peoples justly and guide the nations of the earth.
5 May the peoples praise you, O God; may all the peoples praise you.
6 Then the land will yield its harvest, and God, our God, will bless us.
7 God will bless us, and all the ends of the earth will fear him.

Dear Lord, You are filled with graciousness and justice, gladness and joy. You are awesome. As we reverence You, O God, You bless us and You make Your face to shine on us. Help us, Lord, to make Your ways known on earth, Your salvation among all nations, so that all the peoples praise You, O God, so that all the nations be glad and sing for joy, so that You rule the people justly and guide the nations of the earth.

May we as a people, as a nation, as part of Your creation – all of us praise You, Lord, so that You bless us, so that all the ends of the earth will fear and reverence You.

Thanks for Your presence in each of our lives, Your comfort knowing how much You love us, Your strength because Your Spirit empowers us, Your peace which always keep us close to You. Amen.

May the Lord bless you as you go on your way. May He go before you to show you the way. May He go behind you to encourage you. May He go beside you to guide and befriend you. May He always be above you to watch over you. And may He be within you to give you peace.
